Between the Wars
The bulk of Ashtead is inter war: semis and detached houses along the Craddocks and out towards the Downs, under clay plain tiles at a steep pitch, many with the mock Tudor gables that hide a lot of lead. Those roofs are now eighty to ninety years old. The tiles are often fine; the battens, the felt if there is any, and the mortar bedding are not.
The Village and the Older End
