Rotten fascias and sagging gutters put water down your walls, and that is how a roofline problem becomes a damp problem. Replacing it is a short job that saves years of trouble.

What we do
We replace timber roofline in uPVC, or repair what is there when that is the sensible answer.
The boards along the edge of the roof and the panels underneath. Timber ones rot from the back where you cannot see; by the time the paint is flaking the wood has gone. We replace in uPVC that never needs painting, or in timber where the house calls for it.
The fascia carries the gutter and closes the ends of the rafters; the soffit closes the underside of the eaves. When the timber rots the gutter brackets pull out, the gutter sags and overflows, and the damp gets into the rafter ends. We take the old boards off, check the rafter ends, and fit new boards with the right fixings.
uPVC is the usual choice because it never needs painting. On a period house or where the original timber detail matters we replace in timber, primed and painted.
A typical semi detached house is re boarded in two to three days from a tower or ladders. uPVC boards are fixed with polytop nails at set centres so they do not lift or bow, the joints are covered, and the soffit is vented to suit the roof.
New guttering set to the right fall, with enough outlets and downpipes to actually carry the water. Repairs to joints, brackets and sagging runs where the rest is sound.
Guttering only works if it falls towards the outlet and the outlet can take the flow. We set new runs to the right fall, add downpipes where a long run has too few, and use the profile that suits the house, from standard half round to deep flow on a large roof. Repairs to joints, brackets and sagging lengths are done where the rest of the run is sound.
Half round uPVC guttering suits most houses; deep flow or square profiles carry more water on a large roof or one that collects from two slopes. Gutters are set to a fall of around 1 in 350 towards the outlet, on brackets at close centres so the run cannot sag.

A new soffit is the place to put the eaves ventilation a loft needs. We build it in.
A loft needs air moving through it or the timbers stay damp. Vented soffit boards or over fascia vents are fitted as part of a new roofline so the ventilation is built in, not an afterthought.
The Building Regulations expect a cold roof to be ventilated at the eaves with the equivalent of a continuous 10 millimetre gap, or 25 millimetres on a shallow pitch, which a vented soffit or an over fascia vent provides. It is fitted as part of the roofline work, not as an extra.
Gutters blocked with moss and leaves overflow at the first heavy rain. We clear them, and fit leaf guards where trees make it a yearly problem.
Blocked gutters overflow at the back as well as the front, which is how water gets into the fascia and the wall. We clear them, flush the downpipes, check the joints and brackets, and fit leaf guards where overhanging trees make it an annual job.
Gutter clearing is done from the roof or a ladder with the debris bagged and taken away, the downpipes flushed and the joints checked. Where trees overhang we fit leaf guards or a brush guard so the next autumn does not fill them again.

How it works
What happens between getting in touch and the finished job.

Call or send a photograph of the roofline. Flaking paint, sagging gutters and water running down the wall are the usual signs.

We check the boards, the gutters and the eaves, and tell you what can be repaired and what should be replaced.

An itemised price for the fascias, soffits, guttering and downpipes, in uPVC or timber, with the ventilation included.

The new roofline fitted, the gutters set to fall, the old material taken away, and photographs of the finished job.

Fascias soffits and guttering questions
Anything not covered here, call 01372 540 258 and ask. You will get a roofer, not a call centre.
uPVC never needs painting and does not rot, and it is what most houses get. Timber where the house is period or listed and the look matters. Both done right.
Not always. Where the timber is sound and the guttering is the problem, we repair or replace the guttering alone.
A typical house, two to four days including scaffold.
